Thrive Counselling Support – Frequently Asked Questions.

Thank you to all have expressed interest in seeking support through Thrive Counselling. It is great to have you here!

There are some questions that come up frequently through enquiries. If your question is not addressed below, please feel free to be in touch and we can discuss further the type of support Thrive can provide for you or your child.

Some of the most commonly asked questions can be found here.

How much is a session?

A session with Kirsty at Thrive is $100 for a one hour session.

For this price you receive a one-hour therapy session. This also covers any preparation completed before your session, and any consumables in the event of art therapy sessions.

What type of counselling is offered?

Individual counselling for adults, teens and children is offered. The type of therapy depends on the needs of the client. Cognitive behaviour therapy, talk therapy, art therapy and mindfulness work, as well as exploration of the brain/body connection are some of the techniques used. I have supported people with anxiety, OCD, low mood, school refusal, self-harm, relationship issues, grief and other challenges. I am continually engaging in professional development to enhance my skills to offer you the most comprehensive therapy experience.

Do you accept GP Mental Health Care Plans?

While you are more than welcome to come and see me with or without a mental health care plan, professional counsellors are unable to obtain Medicare Provider Numbers as we are not considered Allied Health Professionals, and so can not provide Medicare rebates. This is something that the Australian Counselling Association is working on in conjunction with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. In an attempt to mitigate this situation, I set my fee at $100 an hour, as this is comparable to the out-of-pocket expense experienced when seeing a mental health professional with a Medicare provider number. This fee can be negotiated if needed, as I do not want cost to be a barrier for those coming to counselling.

Can we have a chat before I commit to a one hour session?

We sure can! I offer an obligation-free 15-minute phone conversation free of charge, where you can ask any questions you may have, and we can discuss the needs of yourself or your child.

Are you a member of any professional bodies?

I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association. I have professional supervision, and engage in professional development as outlined by the ACA guidelines.

How can I make an appointment?

To make an appointment with Kirsty at Thrive please call or message 0407 441 315, or DM on social media.

When are appointments available?

Appointments are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Hours vary, so please be in touch to discuss your needs.
